In November 2019, five members of the NBYICN spoke as part of the 2019 Youth In Care Hearings. Their stories captivated an audience made up of elected officials, other professionals, and a team of other youth in care. As they spoke of the trials and victories of growing up in the provincial care system, they embodied the voices of a generation of their peers.
To those who spoke, know that we will forever admire your bravery, your conviction, and your desire to make the world a better place for those yet to come. To those who listened, we thank you for your support and hope that you will take what you heard and do your part to better support youth in care.
As part of the day’s events, our NBYICN members devised a list of recommendations on how the system can be improved. In the months to come, we will be releasing these and other related information in a report. This document will be informed not only by youth in care, but also by social workers, foster parents, adoptive parents, and a slew of other youth serving professionals.
