On May 3rd, we will be hosting a full day Youth Engagement Summit that will focus specifically on youth mental health. The event will be an opportunity for high school aged students throughout the province to identify and speak together and to policy makers on issues related to mental health and well-being. The input and feedback gathered will be used by us and relevant government departments to set priorities to address the needs facing our New Brunswick youth.
Guided by the overarching conference theme of youth mental health, the summit will feature a day of “Open Space”: a dynamic format that allows participants themselves to identify specific topics of discussion and the agenda of the day. Rather than hemming participants within a strict set of workshops, open space allows them considerable flexibility to participate in the activities and discussions they consider to be of interest and priority to them.
Following our Youth Engagement Summit format, the event will be organized in part by a youth leadership group. Made up of young people from various New Brunswick communities, this group will assist in planning the event and will be on hand to coordinate discussions, games, and other conference activities during the day.
Registration
Limited space is available, and we would like a broad representation of youth from urban, rural, remote, Francophone, Anglophone, Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik First Nations communities across New Brunswick. Registration information has been sent to New Brunswick high schools and a number of other key organizations.
At the moment, we are only taking registrations for groups coming from high schools and community organizations. If you are a member of a high school staff team or a community organization that works with youth, and you would like your youth to take part in this event, you may download the registration forms below. If you are not, but are interested in signing up, contact our Project Coordinator Cindy Miles for more info on how you can get involved.
