We’re kicking off a new program in the Fall of 2016. The Youth Engagement Initiative involves the development of regional leadership groups throughout the province. Comprised of both youth and adult supporters, these groups will take on a variety of social and community awareness projects, all with the goal of amplifying the voices of youth and providing them with opportunities to influence decision-makers.
The most important of these projects involves the planning of a youth forum within the regions. These forums will provide youth with the opportunity to gather and participate in a series of activities and discussions coordinated by members of their regional leadership group.
“This initiative offers us an opportunity to develop our leadership skills and organise an event that is truly for youth and by youth,” explains a member of the Acadian Peninsula leadership group.
Originally conceived and delivered by the provincial Department of Health, PFY will seek to build upon past successes and enhance the Youth Engagement Initiative substantially over the next three years. The program is set to roll out in two regions this Fall—Charlotte County and the Acadian Peninsula. It will continue to expand into additional regions over the next two years.
“Your government is proud to support the development of the Youth Engagement Initiative in the province to further develop leadership skills in our youth,” says provincial Minister of Health, Victor Boudreau. “This initiative will certainly enhance youth participation and engage them as partners in promoting positive change in our communities.”
